Get ready
for a new way to learn.
Technology has had a revolutionary impact on our global economy
in the last century, especially its impact in the workplace.
In the 1980s, the PC revolutionized how employees did their
jobs, allowing large groups of individuals to communicate
with one another through WANs & LANs. In the 1990s, the Internet
created an environment in which computers from all over the
world could interact with one another; bring society one-step
closer to a true global economy. Today, another revolutionary
shift is occurringmovement from an information economy
to a knowledge economy, requiring today's employees to be
continuous lifelong learners.
Thanks to Acadio's recent technology advancements, individuals
like you now have a resource to maintain their skill sets
for a lifetime. Acadio's goal is to become the leading e-learning
company for businesses and professionals. With the launch
of Phase II of its site, it's now another step closer to that
goal. Acadio has added some exciting new features to its site,
including assessment tests like the sample in this newsletter,
hundreds of online classes, and a deeper assortment of self-study

well, including the look of The Acadio Flyer. We would

High-Tech Recruiting
Frustrated by the slow turnaround and expense of
advertising in local-market newspapers, corporate
recruiters are turning to the Internet to mine talent
from around the world. Done right, online recruiting
lowers costs, speeds up the recruiting cycle, and
helps you target first rate candidates. Done wrong,
it can actually drive employees away from your company.

A September 2000 study by the Economic Policy Institute,
a union-supported think tank, found that an average middle-class
family's income rose by 9.2 percent, after inflation,
from 1989 to 1998. But that family also spent 6.8 percent
more time at work to reap it. The Education Department's
National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) has found
that 44 percent of all higher education institutions offered
distance learning courses in the 1997-1998 academic year.
That figure does not include the growing number of private,
for-profit entities that are tapping the expanding market
for adult education. The center estimated that 1.3 million
students were enrolled in postsecondary degree-granting
distance learning courses in that same academic year,
up from 750,000 in 1995.

You've
been charged handling your company's first big account
in a foreign country. Rather than hiring an expensive
translation service to create the necessary documents,
you decided to rely on an automated or "machine"
translator. Bad choice! While automated tools can help
you decipher that e-mail in Spanish or fake your way through
a meal in Paris, they're not accurate enough for sensitive
business or marketing materials. Will they ever be?
